Schedule and Venue
Aug 23 (Mon) - Sep 24 (Fri) 2026
Panasonic Hall, Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University, Japan
Scope
Understanding the macroscopic behavior of interacting many-body systems far from equilibrium is one of the central challenges of statistical mechanics. In recent years, remarkable progress has been made in describing the emergence of hydrodynamic behavior from microscopic dynamics, as well as the fluctuations and universal phenomena associated with it. These developments have brought together ideas and methods from statistical physics, probability theory, mathematical physics, and quantum many-body physics.
This long-term workshop aims to bring together researchers working on various aspects of non-equilibrium many-body systems, with a particular emphasis on hydrodynamics, fluctuations, and universality in classical, quantum, and stochastic systems.
Topics of interest include:
-
Hydrodynamic limits and generalized hydrodynamics
-
KPZ universality and anomalous transport
-
Large deviations and non-equilibrium steady states
-
Integrable systems and quantum many-body dynamics
-
Thermalization and quantum circuit models
-
Active matter and non-reciprocal systems
-
Stochastic thermodynamics
The program will feature pedagogical lectures, an international conference, and thematic workshops. As a long-term residential program, it will also provide ample opportunities for informal discussions and collaborations. By bringing together researchers from different communities, we hope to stimulate new interactions and foster future developments in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.
