Description
Quantum many-body physics is a field of physics that investigates
macroscopic properties of matter emerging from the collective behavior
of
many interacting quantum particles. The study of topological order
tries to classify phases of matter by introducing equivalence or
preorder relations
between states of physical interest from a physically motivated point of view.
This physical point of view introduces the concept of locality to the
problem, a feature that has not been extensively investigated in
purely mathematical research.
In this talk, I would like to give an overview of this developing area
of mathematical physics.
